Manufacturer data and Linkbycar boxes
The data is already in the car.
Most recent cars already send their data to the manufacturer. For 30+ brands we collect it from there, with nothing to install. For the others we fit a Linkbycar box. Either way, you read it in the same Linkbycar API.

What "True Fleet Coverage" means
True Fleet Coverage is the share of the fleet you actually run, all ages and brands included, that we can connect. "New-vehicle compatibility" only describes recently sold vehicles. We reach 100% on the first level below. The next two depend on the age and the brand of each vehicle.

A list of chassis numbers is all we need. Nobody visits your site, nobody inspects the vehicles, and no vehicle stops.
What each vehicle can report, within hours
For each vehicle, we tell you whether it connects through the manufacturer or needs a Linkbycar box, and which data comes back. You know what your fleet can report before you commit.
Remote activation, a box for the rest
We activate compatible vehicles remotely. The others get a Linkbycar box, fitted on your schedule. Both send their data to the same Linkbycar API, in the same format and on the same dashboards.

EU law gives you the right to your vehicles' data
Since 12 September 2025, the EU Data Act gives vehicle owners and lessees the right to access the data their connected vehicles generate, and to designate a third party to receive it. Manufacturers must offer fair access terms, and the data stays portable if you change providers. Linkbycar acts as your designated third party. We check which vehicles are compatible, collect consent, activate the vehicles, put the data in one format and deliver it to you.
Common questions
Do I need to install anything in my vehicles?
Not on compatible vehicles: we activate them remotely, once we have confirmed the vehicle is compatible and consent is in place. The other vehicles get a compact Linkbycar box. Both send their data to the same Linkbycar API, so your tools see no difference.
What about my older vehicles?
They get a Linkbycar box. Core telematics (location, trips, driving behaviour, mileage) works on any vehicle with a battery. Adapters that read the vehicle's onboard electronics, covering more than 1,500 models, add fuel, odometer and diagnostics data on most models of the last decade.
How do I know which of my vehicles connect without a box?
Send us your list of chassis numbers. For each vehicle, we tell you how it connects and which data it can report, typically within hours. Every Linkbycar deployment starts with this check.
What does the EU Data Act change for my fleet?
Applicable since 12 September 2025, the Data Act gives vehicle owners and lessees the legal right to access the data their connected vehicles generate and to designate a third party, like Linkbycar, to receive it. Manufacturers must offer fair access terms, and your data remains portable if you switch providers.
Is driver privacy protected?
Yes. Activation includes informing drivers and managing their consent. You can restrict which data is visible to whom, which matters with a works council and in the public sector.
